This is my first Panasonic projector. I have had others from Infocus, Sanyo and Epson. I have had DLP and LCD. I have seen many others. This projector is an LCD (no burn in like plasma and no color wheel to strain your eyes and make you see color smear/rainbows) with a dynamic iris (which improves contrast).
Second, I have had a home theater in my family room with front projection technology for about 7 years now. It is our main viewing room for High Definition Satellite and Over the Air TV and DVD, as well as Standard Definition TV and DVD.

In looking for a projector to use in my home theater, I was overwhelmed. Lumens, contrast ratios, progressive scanning, resolution, it was all Greek to me. The more I read, the more learned, and I found that home theater projectors ranged from the thousand dollar range, to the $20,000 range. I had no idea what I wanted, but I didn’t want to re-mortgage my house to get it!
That’s when I discovered the Epson PowerLite 77c. While geared primarily for the board room, I found the features in this to be incredible for theater room applications…especially the PRICE.

andrevm’s review (on epinions.com, if you’re reading this from another site) provides a lot of great information. Read his first - this is supplementary information. Interestingly, andrevm and I have very similar setups. I also picked up light-blocking curtains from IKEA, spent a fortune on cables, installed a ceiling mount, and purchased the exact same screen. However, since my room is deeper (19 feet, with a 17 foot throw distance), I get a larger picture.
As andrevm has mentioned, it is virtually impossible to shop for and compare home theater projectors in any kind of retail environment. All you can do is do your research, cross your fingers, and jump.
