Whew - was my first reaction of relief after I took delivery of my brand new Panasonic PT-AX200U projector in November. It came shipped in plenty of protective packaging and I was excited to finally see it come in. The projector comes with a special locking kit to lock it to your projector mount (sold separately).
After a good month and a half of letting the bulb burn in and trying all kinds of different configurations, I felt comfortable sharing my experiences.

(Note: this projector is actually made by Mitsubishi, not NEC; googling “NEC HC4900″ will bring up the Mitsubishi projector reviewed here)
I moved into a new house about 18 months ago and decided that with the large amount of basement space I had, I was going to build a dedicated home theater. This is something that I’ve been wanting to do for several years.

Okay, my wife reworked my budget, and instead of the latest model the H78DC3 projector that I REALLY wanted from Optoma, we opted to get the H31. I ordered from an authorized dealer on-line out of Florida, and while I won’t bore you with the shipping fiasco - let’s just say - they’ll remain annonymous.
The projector finally arrived with the celling mount, and it only took me about 30 minutes to install, level, power on, and aim the projector - VERY easy - I think anyone with a level, and a ladder could mount and aim this very easily.

This is my first Panasonic projector. I have had others from Infocus, Sanyo and Epson. I have had DLP and LCD. I have seen many others. This projector is an LCD (no burn in like plasma and no color wheel to strain your eyes and make you see color smear/rainbows) with a dynamic iris (which improves contrast).
Second, I have had a home theater in my family room with front projection technology for about 7 years now. It is our main viewing room for High Definition Satellite and Over the Air TV and DVD, as well as Standard Definition TV and DVD.

* SEE IMPORTANT UPDATE AT THE END *
Like several others who have reviewed this product, I came for the picture and have been abandoned by a lamp that lasted only a quarter as long as it is rated for. With this very expensive product out of warranty it is extremely frustrating to have to choose between a bulb replacement versus an entirely new projector from a different manufacturer.
I expected a much more fulfilling experience after shelling out close to $1000 for this product…

I have had my Infocus SP5000 now since the end of December 2005, and so far am very pleased with this projector. When we moved into a
smaller house, our 55 inch HDTV projection tv was just to big a box for our smaller living room. The wife said it had to go. So I sold it and bought
this projector at Costco for around $1050. I don’t think Costco is selling this unit anymore, but it is still available from other internet sources.
