The Sharp PG-C45X is a good quality data projector, and compared to earlier Sharp models (for instance, the PG-C40, PG-C30, or even the NV-6) it provides ever increasing features for ever decreasing prices.
When purchased, the box contains the following items:
- data projector
- serial adaptor cable
- IR remote control
- Sharp interface software on CD
- Power cable
- A/V cables (audio, video)
- manuals, warranty info
The best way to see the improvements in this model, as compared to earlier models, is to perform a “shootout”, by placing an older model beside this one, and looping the exact same signal to both units.

I purchased two Acer projectors some time ago and have had endless problems with them as follows:
1) 1 projector has a significantly louder motor sound than the other (which is still loud, but not as). Acer technicians have not been able to fix this.
2) The projector which is loud had faults straight out of the box (it switched itself off after 15 minutes for no reason and had to be restarted at the power source) which Acer technicians took 6 weeks to fix. For this price, I didn’t think that was very acceptable.

I got this from a local warehouse store (Sam’s Club)for $899, and considering the great quality of the picture and the easy set-up, I could not have been happier with it. That is until after about 5 weeks when a pixel went bad, right in the middle of the screen. One of the things that really attracted me to this Sharp projector was its 3 years parts and labor warranty, plus I was able to extend that to 7 years parts and labor for only $79!! What a deal! How could I loose? Well I found out how when I called Sharp and asked how I could get the bad pixel fixed and was told that there must be 3 or more pixels out before they will honor the warranty. I explained that the pixel was very noticeable, being in the center of the screen, and very white, and always visible. It ruined the pleasure of watching the movie and was not acceptable. The said - tough. They would not fix it until 3 pixels went bad, end of discussion. So I have to wait for how many years for 2 more to go out before they will fix their product? (Actually that may not be too long if their projector’s quality is as bad as their customer service…) I would rather just return it and shop for another brand with a REAL warranty.

I’ve owned other Sharp projectors that function flawlessly. This one is questionable. The major concern is with long term reliability. In addition, the unit appears to be somewhat fragile for a portable notebook projector. Sometimes it works flawlessly the next time it just quits. It is very disturbing when it quits during a presentation. There are only 25-30 hours on the lamp yet it periodically flickers and then quits working. It is supposed to run for 2000 hours. Unit is 6 months old but the lamp is only warrantied for 3 months. Replacement cost for a new lamp is about $500. Small type fonts are hard to read. Unit gets hot and fan is somewhat noisy. However it does produce a bright image. I especially like the preset gamma adjustment but I will likely be looking for a new projector soon.
